Recap of Macy’s Great American Grilling Guru #SizzleShowDown

What is the Sizzle Showdown? it’s a national search to find the country’s ultimate master of the grill. When Macy’s asked cooks across the country for their most prized grilling recipes, they got exactly what they were looking for. From April 15 through May 3rd, cooks submitted their recipes for a chance to fire it up and compete in the Sizzle Showdown. The goods? a chance to receive a grand prize of $10,000 and a trip to the 2015 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks.

On June 7th, three semi-finalist from 6 regions competed in the regional showdown. The winners from each of those semi-final grill offs competed on June 28th, for the Sizzle Showdown Finale at Macy’s Herald Square. 6 contestants faced off in a head to head grill off for a chance to be crowned the Grilling Guru. The event was judged by Culinary Council Chefs Johnny Luzzini and Todd English. The grilling contestants had only one hour to prepare their dish. Fans were entertained with fun trivia questions, prizes, and samples if you were quick enough to grab a bite.

Sea to Shinning Sea Crab Sliders with Firecracker Chow & Avocado Tartar Cream.

4. Mary S. Ada, OK

American West Pork & Beef Braids with Charred Apple-Mango Reduction on Grilled Sea Salt-Kissed Kale

5. Sherri W. Creastview, FL

Grilled Thai Lamb Lion Chops

6. Jack S. Anaheim, CA

Steak and Potato Sliders with Basil/Gorgonzola

Contestant number 5 won the judges over with her dish. Congratulations Sherri!

Johnny Luzzini is a New York American executive pastry chef in the world-renowned Jean Georges restaurant in New York City, television celebrity and cookbook author. Won the award for Outstanding Pastry Chef from the James Beard Foundation in 2006.
