My children use to give me a hard time to eat their vegetables. Can you blame them? Not all kids want to chew on a ton of veggies unless they’re veggie chips of course! (not really veggies) but after seeing me go green in the morning and with a little bribing and convincing, they were all up for helping Mommy chop and blend all our ingredients together.
The great thing about green smoothies is that with a little practice, you can become a master at blending. I like to start by adding my two favorite liquid bases which are Almond milk and coconut water. I’ve tried mixing my bases with almond or coconut milk, water or coconut water and they all tasted great. It’s all up to your liking. Next, add your chopped greens little by little. I’ve broken quite a few blenders trying to fit it all in at once. Also, I prefer using frozen fruit because there’s no need for ice.
Here’s a great recipe to try:
- 1 1/2 cups coconut water
- 2 cups stemmed and chopped spinach or kale
- 1 banana
- 1/2 avocado
- Combine the coconut water, spinach, banana, and avocado in a blender and puree until smooth, about 1 minute, adding water to reach the desired consistency.
