From Thanksgiving to Christmas, the holiday season is a time of celebration and sharing. A time when people are more kind and open-hearted. While people are entering the new year giving up things, I’m choosing to give more! starting with gifts that give back like Macys Heart of Haiti.
Being a Mom, I want to maintain the spirit of Christmas by making it a time of joy, gratitude, and celebration. I also want to teach my girls the importance of helping others like buying gifts that make a difference.
Macy’s Heart of Haiti joined forces with the artisans in Haiti to develop a product line for sale and began featuring them on Macys.com and in select stores shortly after the Earthquake. While other organization have come and gone, Macy’s has remained in Haiti since shortly after the earthquake, deepening their commitment to this Trade, not Aid initiative.
I hang my Heart of Haiti Recycled Metal Round Chrysanthemum Bowl in my kitchen because it’s where the kids and I spend most of our time and where my family sits when we have dinner. I want my family to know that this handcrafted work of art has a story.
The sales of these handcrafted bowls allow the artisans to feed their families, send their children to school and better support their extended families. Artisans forge these bowls out of recycled oil barrels, pounding out intricate designs.
Presently the Macy’s Heart of Haiti line is only available at a few select Macy’s stores listed here: Herald Square, Downtown Brooklyn, Downtown DC’s Metro Center, Chicago’s State Street, San Francisco’s Union Park, Downtown Seattle, Dallas Gallaria, Downtown Portland (Ore), Atlanta’s Lenox Square, Dallas Galleria Mall, Miami Dadeland.
