An Unforgettable Night On Broadway With Kinky Boots #KinkyBoots

Last week I had the chance to surprise my brother with an early Christmas present to see a performance of  Kinky Boots. A Broadway hit show that tells the story of Charlie. A newly engaged son who’s struggling to save his father’s business from shutting down after it was inherited to him upon his father’s death.

The business is not the only thing Charlie is trying to save but his friendships and relationships along the way at Price & Sons, a British Shoe Factory in Northhampton England. In the show, we see how Charlie meets Lola, a Drag Queen living in London played by Youtube star Toddrick Hall, who’s childhood has something in common with Charlie and that was the expectations of their fathers as little boys, which plays out during a duet in Not My Father’s Son.

The show takes us through the ups and down of  Charlie and Lola’s friendship. In the street fight scene (how they met), I like to think of it as … who really saved who! it is here when I fell in love with Lola and her backup singers, The Angels. Get ready to dance in your seat and scream like a groupie! this show is filled with so much energy that you really feel as if you’re watching a Drag Queen show and although I didn’t see the movie, I’m kind of glad I didn’t because I wanted to be surprised and that I was!

In the show, you are introduced to the workers of Price and Son (Charlie’s Shoe Factory). They are all funny except for one who can’t accept that Lola is a Drag Queen. There are moments when the show gets deep, personal and you can feel Lola’s pain. All you want to do is jump on stage and hug Lola but she can handle her own! From the music, costumes, to the makeup and boots, this musical was incredible! you just can’t see this show once. I’m going back! but this time I’m memorizing all the lyrics so I can sing along!

Although I tried not to give away too much in my post, the story line and message throughout the show were powerful. The message in Kinky Boots is about accepting people for who they are and not making judgments without getting to know them. Just be yourself!
