Popular music group L2M are sharpening their coding skills as they take on the roles of five friends in a brand new scripted series called Hyperlinked. The 10-episode series will follow a group of girls as they come together to create their own website that’s by girls for girls while also dealing with everyday tween issues involving friendship and growing up.

Hyperlinked will be available on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 on YouTube and the YouTube Kids app for YouTube Red subscribers. The series will be available through Disney’s YouTube channel as part of the Disney Digital Network. All viewers will be able to watch one episode for free while the remaining episodes will be available exclusively for YouTube Red subscribers.

In addition to showing a cool and diverse group of girls with sharp programming skills solving tech problems and everyday middle school issues, Hyperlinked will also feature fun pop tunes and dance moves which L2M is known for. Produced by Kids at Play and Miss O and Friends, the show is inspired by the true story of the Miss O and Friends website.

L2M is a girl band of BFFs named McKenzie, Marangeli, Tati, Jenna and Lexi. They were signed by Warner Bros. Records in January 2016 and their debut single “Girlz” was also featured in the LEGO Friends original movie.

Together with Google’s Computer Science in Media team and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, the series convened an Advisory Council, consisting of: Madeline Di Nonno (CEO, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media), Kimberly Bryant ( Founder and CEO, Black Girls CODE ), Rosalind Wiseman (Bestselling author of Queen Bees & Wannabees), Jess Weiner (CEO, Talk to Jess LLC) and Michael Cohen PhD (President, Michael Cohen Group LLC (MCG)). This team served as advisors on the series, working with the production team at every stage to make sure that girls in STEM were being portrayed accurately and that the show was modeling positive messages around girls and their relationships with each other and their families.

Hyperlinked will live on Disney’s YouTube channel (http://youtube.com/Disney), which is part of the Disney Digital Network. The series’ themes and messages of empowering girls through STEM training, music and diversity align with the network’s mission to inspire its audience through engaging and aspirational original content.

YouTube Red is a paid membership that gives viewers an enhanced, uninterrupted experience across YouTube, YouTube Music, YouTube Gaming and YouTube Kids. Members also get exclusive access to new original series and movies from top YouTube creators. YouTube Red is currently available in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Korea with plans for additional international expansion throughout the year.
